Commercial property signs and tenant signage planning

Keep tenant changes organized across the property.

A multi-tenant property needs consistent sign criteria and a clear approval trail. Build the brief around the unit, approved sign area and property documents before selecting materials or lighting. Track changes by location so replacement work does not start from scratch.

Collect the controlling documents

Share applicable property sign criteria or a master sign plan with the tenant and sign provider. Identify the authorized property approver. Check which municipal requirements apply to the actual address before assuming a neighboring tenant’s sign is an acceptable template.

Create a sign inventory

Record each sign’s location, dimensions, tenant name and artwork version. Include building identification, directional signs and window graphics as distinct entries. Photographs make future replacements easier to discuss when the original contact is unavailable.

Scope the tenant changeover

Confirm removal responsibilities, surface restoration, installation access and whether old fixings or electrical infrastructure need assessment. Separate the new artwork approval from readiness of the mounting surface. Keep the approved final proof with the unit’s records.
